GETTING A COVER LETTER RIGHT

When applying for a job  its often requested that you send in your resume and a cover letter.
It's also obvious from research that a large number of people do not know the essence or  purpose of a cover letter ;and as such what is sent in is usually a poor representation of who you are and what you can

For starters, a cover letter is not an extension of your resume.

A large number of applicants use their cover letters to further summarize their resumes. That is a big NO-NO.

A cover letter is an opportunity to sell yourself and make the company see why you are a preffered candidate.

A cover letter should be tailored to the particular job, organization and position you're applying for.

So for those who keep using one format for all applications; I hope you see why you were never called.

Your cover letter must indicate what caught  your attention about the  job/ company and why you are choosing this job above any one out there.

Your cover letter should indicate what makes you right for the job; asides what's mentioned in your resume.

In summary your cover letter should answer the following questions

Who are you?
What you're seeking and why
What you can do
What differentiates you from other applicants
What values can you add to the business

Anything outside these are like they say  "story for the gods "

Have a great week ahead.
